What level of financial literacy is needed to become an entrepreneur? And to become a successful entrepreneur? International organizations, governments, experts, all argue that we need more of both: entrepreneurship and financial literacy. Could it be that one feeds the other? A new research project of IE Business School (led by Professor Marco Trombetta) is precisely trying to give an answer to these questions.
The aim of the project is to collect data on the level of financial literacy of both entrepreneurs and non-entrepreneurs and compare them. In order to measure the level of financial literacy the research uses a methodology based on a short series of questions to be asked to individuals. A better understanding of the relationship between financial literacy and entrepreneurship will increase our understanding of the factor behind the decision to start a new business and it will potentially help in devising programs to support it properly.
