This weekly pitch slam is an invaluable resource for early stage entrepreneurs, a forum for engaging the entrepreneurial community, promoting your startup, and at best securing an investment from our Investors in Residence Wayra, Highgrowth Innovation, Big Sur Ventures, and Sodena.  The Venture Network is unique in that it is a very informal gathering where startups can meet investors in an informal setting over beers and snacks and focus on what’s important; building relationships.  The Venture Network is a great way to perfect your pitch, get feedback on your product, and meet the local startup community.

The Venture Network´s resident panel of startup experts include:

Shai Salhov, Scoutti

Scoutti is a mobile application which allows media outlets, businesses, and regular users, to crowdsource photos on demand in real time. Scoutti ensures the credibility and authenticity of photos to allow media publishers, such as news sites, to acquire and publish immediately any content generated on Scoutti.

Alexander Kalinin, Smartprogress

Smartprogress is a mix of a social network and goal facilitator. The service enables users to incubate their idea leveraging on wisdom of the crowd. It works best for people who turn their dreams into a SMART goal and achieve them. The project has been launched in Russian network and encounters 5000 active users.

We mentioned in one of our previous posts our new Alumni Startup Incubator, that Area 31 launched last February. Our entrepreneurs are all very different. But they all have a couple of things in common: creativity and ambition!

Take, for example, Mikhail Bakunin, co-founder of The Talent Bond. He explains his project and his vision as follows:

 Our team members come from different countries and have very diverse professional and cultural background. However, we all were united while doing International MBA in IE Business School. MBA programs in general require a lot from students, not only in terms of the time dedicated to studying but also in terms of significant financial investment. Unfortunately, many talented students can’t afford this great education and they might not acquire the knowledge that could later be applied to receiving business environment.

The Talent Bond will solve this financing challenge by making it easier for alumni to give loans to brilliant admitted students. We assess students’ future earning potential based on a combination of traditional criteria and on a “predictive forward evaluation”. The fact that students want to maintain good reputation within the alumni community will decrease the default rate  to zero.

Caroline Wakefield, the co-founder of uniQuinu, is another great example:

UniQinu unleashes emerging international design talent on the UK and Spain. UniQinu breaks the mold for well-priced, unique fashion by identifying and bringing together a collection of up-and-coming independent womenswear and accessories designers from across the globe.

In addition to being an online retail platform, uniQinu provides interactive space for fashion aficionados, where anyone can join a dialogue of uniQinu’s users and chat about unfolding global trends, suggest new designers, and give (or get) styling tips. Users of our website can develop their avatars and dress them with styles chosen their favorite pieces from the site. They can also generate followers and get rated by other users. There are also different bonus programs and cash back options. UniQinu is Paradise for all pragmatic shoppers who also want to be trendy!

nubbius is a cloud computing software for lawyers integrated with Google Apps. It lets solo lawyers, small and medium law firms manage his practice anytime, anywhere with any device: PC, Laptop, Smartphone or Tablet. nubbius helps lawyers to be more efficient.

José María Terrés, Oritia & Boreas

O&B is a spin-off of the University of Granada and official technological partner with Western University, Canada. O&B is developing a next generation wind simulator, S·A·V·E., for application in the study of wind effects on tall and complex shaped buildings, bridges, flexible structures, renewable energy systems and sports aerodynamics.

IE VENTURE DAY

9^TH MAY 2013 MADRID

Think you´ve got what it takes to pitch to top Seed Capital Investors?  Will you wow an international jury of active early stage investors and claim the crown of Venture Day Winner?  If you are an innovative high potential start-up with at least 1 team member who is a student or alumni of IE Business School, we want to hear from you.

 We have opened up the IE VENTURE DAY start-up competition to the whole IE Business School community.  The IE VENTURE DAY will showcase the very best start-ups from IE Business School with a view to securing funding from our international audience of angel and VC investors.

Selection Criteria

1. Innovative – product/service, business model, and/or route to market
2. Scalable – international commercial potential & scalable business model
3. Team – relevant skills & experience mix (with 1 IE student)
4. Market – clear & large market opportunity
5. Status – product/service must be at minimum beta prototype

Selection Process

1. Submit application.
2. Successful applicants will be invited to pitch to our Selection Committee.
3. Selection Committee will invite up to 5 start-ups to pitch at IE VENTURE DAY.

Deadlines

1. Submit application – 5 April 2013
2. Pitch to Selection Committee – 22 – 26 April 2013
3. Announcement of start-ups selected to pitch – 30 April 2013
4. Pitch at IE VENTURE DAY – 9 May 2013

Se ha abierto el concurso startup IE VENTURE DAY a toda la comunidad de IE Business School.  Los IE VENTURE DAY serán un escaparate de las mejores startups de todo el IE Business School con el fin de acceder a financiación de nuestra audiencia inversora.

Criterios de selección

1. Innovador – producto / servicio, modelo de negocio, y / o canal al mercado

2. Escalable – oportunidad comercial internacional y modelo de negocio escalable

3. Equipo – experiencia y habilidades relevantes y equilibradas (con 1 alumno IE)

4. Mercado – un mercado identificado claro y grande

5. Estado – producto / servicio debe estar como mínimo a un prototipo

Proceso de Selección

1. Presentar la solicitud.

2. Candidatos seleccionados invitados a presentar a nuestro Comité de Selección.

3. Comité de Selección invitará a un máximo de 5 startups para presentar en los  IE VENTURE DAYS.  N.B la presentación en IE VENTURE DAYS tiene que ser en inglés.

Fechas de entrega

1. Presentar la solicitud – 5 de abril 2013
2. Pitch a Comité de Selección – 22 – 26 de abril 2013
3. Anuncio de las startups seleccionadas para presentar – 30 abril 2013
4. Presentar en IE VENTURE DAYS – 9 de mayo 2013
